International Day of Happiness
In 2011, Jayme Illien, Chairman, President and CEO of Illien Global Public Benefit Corporation, sister organization of Illien Adoptions International, Inc. initiated a multiyear campaign to gain the support of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki moon and all 193 countries of the United Nations to draft and adopt U.N. Resolution 66/281 creating the International Day of Happiness.
In April of 2012, Jayme Illien and Illien Global Public Benefit Corporation met with the Secretary General to obtain his endorsement.

The International Day of Happiness resolution was adopted by consensus on June 28, 2012.
The new global day is celebrated worldwide every March 20. The International Day of Happiness recognizes the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal.
The International Day of Happiness recognizes the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives.
The International Day of Happiness recognizes need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well-being of all peoples.
The International Day of Happiness calls on Member States, organizations of the United Nations system and other international and regional organizations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and individuals, to observe the International Day of Happiness in an appropriate manner, including through education and public awareness-raising activities.
The first ever celebrations were initiated on March 16, 2013 at TedXTeen in New York, NY with Chelsea Clinton, Ndaba Mandela, singer songwriter producer Pharrell, the United Nations, the United Nations Foundation.

Today, countless countries, companies, NGO’s, individuals, academic institutions, and more celebrate the International Day of Happiness every March 20.
The International Day of Happiness was first celebrated on March 20th, 2013 as the result of
a United Nations resolution that recognizes the pursuit of happiness and well-being as a
fundamental human goal for all people.
