Read & Feed Program in Addis Ababa

In the spirit of children all over the USA heading back to school, at the end of July 2011, we kicked off our August 2011 fundraising drive for Miskaye Children's Welfare Association's "Read & Feed" Program in Ethiopia. 

Many children in Ethiopia are unable to afford the uniforms or supplies required to attend a public school. However, with your help, we were able to help the Read & Feed Program with its goal to provide up to 30 vulnerable children from the sub-city areas of Addis Ababa with educational and nutritional support throughout each school week.

The Read & Feed Program is built on the premise that education is imperative for enabling and empowering children. Without education, vulnerable Ethiopian children are exponentially more prone to grow into a miserable adulthood.

Education really is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and further vulnerability. Read & Feed helps vulnerable children learn skills that will enable them to care for themselves and seek further education in the future. Because nutrition is crucial to mental and intellectual health, every participating child receives nutritious meals throughout the day to ensure they are able to succeed!

Our goal was to raise at least $1,000 by the end of August 2011 to support the Read & Feed program's coverage of operating costs, food, school supplies and uniforms, and repairs. AND WE DID IT, WITH YOUR HELP!

Several of our current and former adoptive families have already donated over $1,100 combined. With your help, our goal of $1,000 can be achieved by the end of August!

Because our families and friends can visit the Read & Feed facility during either the court and/or embassy trip, we are excited that they will be able to see first-hand where their money is going* and meet the children they help!
