Ukraine Adoption Program
Illien Adoptions International, Inc. has been assisting families to adopt children from Ukraine for over ten years, and we have experienced many changes in the program description during these years. The Government of Ukraine has made a planned effort to reduce the number of children in the orphanages by encouraging in-country adoption and foster care. As their efforts have been successful, the number and profile of children available for intercountry adoption has changed. At present there are very few children under seven years old who do not have some kind of health problem or special need, and at the same time, there are many families from all over the world seeking to adopt young children.The Ukrainian government has limited the number of families they will accept each year for each age category of children. Registration of dossiers at the Adoption Department is open at the beginning of the year; it has not yet been and has been announced for 2009. Illien can will accept applications for 2009 for older and special needs children until the Adoption Department in Ukraine stops accepting dossiers.
Illien Adoptions International, Inc. will only accept applications for children seven and older, for certain sibling groups, and for children with special needs. Our ability to register a prospective adoptive family's dossier varies according to the profile of the child and of the Adoption Department's willingness to register families. We will only accept applicants who fully understand and accept the reality of the profile of the children available for intercountry adoption.
There is a short wait for the older children depending upon their age and health condition.
Fees and costs for this program can vary according to each case.
It is very difficult to project any time frame for completion of an adoption in Ukraine because of many variables and political changes.
Only married couples are eligible to adopt from Ukraine and Ukrainian law states that there can be no more than 45 years between the age of the older adoptive parent and the child to be adopted.
